OSF Personnel & Safety Coordinator

We are now hiring for a part-time, seasonal Personnel Coordinator for the Oregon State Fair.

The Oregon State Fair is a very popular event, the Huffington Post voted it one of The Top Ten Best State Fairs in the United States in 2014.  

This is a great opportunity for someone with past experience in management who handled staffing and recruiting, has some human resources experience, or has been a general manager. Past experience dealing with safety programs is required, whether it be as a manager, or assistant manager. You must have verifiable experience which includes creating, developing and/or implementing a formal safety plan.

This position will be ideal for someone who would like to work part-time and have a flexible schedule. The Oregon State Fair is a fun-filled, exciting event which takes place at the end of August, in Salem, OR, each year. By being a part of the amazing team which makes this event happen you will get to be involved in your community, meet lots of new people, and learn all about our beautiful state. We are looking for someone with previous experience planning and coordinating events. This position holds a lot of responsibility, previous experience is required.   • Knowledge of all State & Federal Employment laws


General Duties (include but not limited to the following):

  • Review and assemble hiring packets for salaried and hourly employees.

  • Review, create, and maintain job descriptions for all positions.

  • Acts as liaison between staffing agency, payroll service, and OSF staff.

  • Coordinates the transfer of all information and documentation, for all employees, to ensure it is transferred to the appropriate person, business, etc.

  • Responsible for ensuring all new hire paperwork is accurate and completed in a timely manner. Works with department heads, assisting with obtaining new hire paperwork and completion.

  • Work with staffing agency regarding discipline, corrective action or termination of Fair hourly employees.

  • Review all safety documents developed by safety consulting firm, determine which documentation needs to be in each personnel file. As well determining which documentation will be reviewed at orientation, on the job training, etc.

  • Work with the Safety Officer to develop a checks and balances system to ensure employees get the appropriate training.

  • Schedule employee orientations, invite Speakers to discuss important topics such as safety, payroll, etc.

  • Responsible for coordinating all training sessions to ensure all employees are trained. This includes large training session during orientation days, as well as ensuring individual training is available for employees hired after the set orientation dates.

  • Coordinate with the staffing agency to schedule the annual job fair for OSF season.

All total, this position will put in about 250 hours of work during the season. Pay will be dependent upon experience.
